September 5, 2010 – Sunday – West Branch, Iowa to Montpelier, Ohio (382 miles and 6.5 hours)

We started the day by attending Church in a Davenport Ward set out in the middle of some corn fields.  We enjoyed the sincerity and spirit of the members.  Then we had brunch at the Flying J Truck Stop (one of my favorite places) where Dad had a stack of three pancakes topped with bananas, strawberries and whipped cream.  We drove the rest of the day listening to an audio book about the American Revolution.  We checked into the Rainbow Motel in Montpelier, Ohio.  Still full from brunch and ice cream cones, we decided to skip dinner and just eat a few granola bars.

During the drive this afternoon, Dad sweetly lamented, “I’m really missing Mom. Sunday afternoons are the time we usually relax together.”  The love affair keeps on going.

  1. I love that dad is missing mom. The first Sunday dinner away from home always makes me homesick. It has for years, actually.

Glad you guys are having such a great trip. I haven't seen most of the sites you've been to so far, so I'm enjoying this.

  3. Have you had any of those classic moments we've all had when travelling with dad, where you go somewhere distant and someone walks up saying, "Well, is that Fielding Nelson???!" I predict at least two on this trip, esp when you get to more church history sites with missionaries & etc. Please report all occurrences!
