September 7, 2010 – Tuesday - Hornell, NY to Oakland (Harmony), PA, to Afton, NY, to Ninevah (Colesville), NY to Binghamton, NY (about 200 miles and 7 hours)

Aaronic Priesthood Restoration Site
Today we started in on some of the earliest Church history by visiting the site of the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood in Oakland (Harmony), PA on the bank of the Susquehanna River. Walked through the cemetery where Isaac Hales, his wife and Joseph Smith’s first child Alvin are buried. We touched the water of the Susquehanna River. Then we visited the home of Josiah Stole in Afton, NY where Joseph and Emma lived shortly after they were married and finally we went to the home of Joseph Knight in Nineveh (Colesville), NY where some of the earliest baptisms occurred and the first branch of the Church was formed. It was meaningful to walk the paths and look at the vistas that Joseph Smith must have experienced.

  1. Joseph Knight is one of my great-grandfathers so how cool for me to see a replica of his farmhouse and the place where the first branch was organized!! Thanks Mark!
