September 2, 2010 - Salt Lake, UT to Laramie, WYO (392 miles in 8 hours)

We'll Miss Each Other
1. Family prayer with Mom, Dad and Heather and then left Salt Lake at about 11 am

2. Stopped at Fort Bridger, Wyoming and looked around – interesting that the Mormons controlled that Fort from 1853 to 1857. The place was busy setting up for the annual Mountain Man gathering

3. Lunch at Travel Center in Little America Wyoming. Dad had a grilled cheese and ham sandwich, chocolate milk and ice cream cone. I had the cowboy cheese burger and a cone.

4. Drove listening to audio book about the Civil War

5. Stayed at the Motel 6, Room 140, in Laramie, Wyoming

Farewell
6. Dinner at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant where Dad had the Trail Buster Breakfast (eggs and hash browns) and I had the Roast Beef Dinner. Dad enjoyed teasing the young waitress during the entire dinner with quips and riddles

7. Dad asked me to kneel at his bedside and pray with him tonight. He said that normally Mom says the end of day prayers on even days and he says those prayers on the odd days. Since Mom is not around, it is my job to say the prayers on the even days during this journey.

This trip will be the longest that Mom and Dad have ever been apart since they were first married and Dad went to France in the Army. We had a family prayer before departing and then it was cute to see Mom and Dad really hug each other goodbye. Tonight Dad called Mom to excitedly tell her about the day.

Dad had great energy today. Normally he sleeps late and naps twice a day. Today he was up early, had no naps, walked good distances and didn’t go to sleep until after 10:30 pm. As I write this, Dad is zonked out and breathing happy and heavy.

Along the road we saw many Prong Horn Antelope. Apparently there are more Prong Horn Antelope than people in Wyoming.
